Florida’s bat maternity season has officially ended, which means now is an important time for homeowners and property managers who have been dealing with bats in attics, rooflines, soffits, or other areas of a structure.

During maternity season, bat exclusions are restricted because colonies may contain young bats that are not yet capable of flying. Excluding the adult bats during that period can leave pups trapped inside the structure.

Now that the seasonal restriction has ended, properly performed bat exclusions can move forward.

What Is a Bat Exclusion?

Bat control isn’t about simply finding one hole and plugging it.

A professional exclusion starts by identifying the bats’ active entry and exit points while also locating other gaps around the structure that could allow them to relocate to another part of the building.

Potential entry points are sealed, and specialized one-way exclusion devices are installed at active openings. These devices allow bats to leave normally but prevent them from getting back inside.

The devices remain in place long enough to give the colony an opportunity to exit. Once the exclusion period is complete and activity has stopped, the devices can be removed and the remaining openings permanently sealed.
